PURA VIDA... This is something you are familiar with if you've ever been to this beautiful part of the world. Costa Rica borders two oceans. The Caribbean side is great from scuba diving and watching sea turtles, where as the Pacific side is better for surfing.

Does the word "soda" ring a bell?
You will see these everywhere. These are cheap restaurants where locals go.
Ask locals their favorite soda in their city, they will definitely give you the best addresses!
A 5 minutes drive from Tamarindo, go to Marisqueria Marcela and try the ceviche, they are just delicious!
Otherwise, the food is really affordable everywhere except in Tamarindo where prices are americanized.
